Fuel Injector Installed Without Damping Component
A damaged connection between the fuel line and the fuel rail could lead to a fuel leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, increase the risk of a fire.

Summary
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020-2021 M2 Coupe and 2020 M4 Coupe vehicles. Fuel injectors may have been installed without a damping component which is used to reduce vibration. If a damping component is not present, vibration will increase at the connection between the fuel line and the fuel rail, which over time, can result in damage at the connection.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel injectors and if a damping component is missing, the injectors and the fuel rail will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began December 18, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this Campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR, the “Service Menu” of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System), ISPA Next or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry.
SITUATION
BMW AG has issued a Recall (effective October 23, 2020) on a small number of Model Year 2020 – 2021 BMW vehicles that were produced between March 17, 2020 – October 14, 2020.
The decoupling element from the injectors may not have been installed which could potentially cause damage to the injection lines on the high-pressure rail. This could lead to fuel leakage from the highpressure rail into the engine compartment.
Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre-Owned or Used vehicle subject to a Recall, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Recall.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove all high-pressure fuel injectors as per Repair Instruction 13 53 719 “Removing and installing/replacing all the injectors”.
2. Inspect each of the injectors for the decoupling element (1).
If they are installed, replace all six decoupling elements (1) and the sealing rings (2) of ALL injectors.
Reinstall the injectors as per Repair Instruction 13 53 719 “Removing and installing/replacing all the injectors”.
3. If any of the injector decoupling elements are missing, replace or install all six decoupling elements and the sealing rings with new parts on ALL injectors.
Do not reuse any decoupling elements or injector seals.
The fuel rail must be replaced as per Repair Instruction 13 53 158 “Removing and installing/replacing the rail”.
Reinstall the injectors as per Repair Instruction 13 53 719 “Removing and installing/replacing all the injectors”.

Obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in either ETK or AIR which takes into account specific equipment and/or options.

The fuel injectors and fuel rail will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced for free and will take about one hour.

one Main work flat rate labor operation code can be claimed per workshop visit.

Based on the age of the Affected Vehicles being addressed by this Safety Recall Campaign, a
reimbursement request for a qualifying prior customer-pay repair is not likely.
However, if you receive a reimbursement request from a customer for a prior repair that may qualify, please
contact the Warranty department (include a legible copy of the invoice) through IDS by selecting Coverage,
Policy, Coding Questions and Mileage Corrections. The Warranty department will review and respond to
your inquiry accordingly.

RE: Recall 20V-xxx: Fuel Injectors – B13 06 20
BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop (effective October 23, 2020) on a small number of Model
Year 2020 – 2021 BMW vehicles that were produced between March 17, 2020 – October 14,
2020.
As of October 29, 2020, this Delivery Stop has been upgraded to a Recall.
Please be reminded that it is a violation of federal law (The Safety Act) for you to sell,
lease or deliver any new motor vehicle covered by this notification until the recall repair
has been performed. This means that centers may not legally deliver new motor vehicles
to consumers until they are fixed or use/sell replacement equipment/parts subject to this
recall. Note also that substantial civil penalties apply to violations of the Safety Act.
Also, you should not sell, lease or deliver any Certified Pre-Owned or used vehicles
subject to a safety recall until the repair is completed.
Please follow any special instructions that we provide to you for the return or disposition
of recall parts.

What could happen?
The fuel injectors may not have been assembled according to specifications which could result in damage to the fuel
rail and, over time, lead to a fuel leak. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire. If you smell
fuel, or notice a fuel leak from underneath your vehicle, it may be experiencing this condition. If this occurs,
carefully move away from traffic and pull over to a safe location as soon as possible. All occupants should
carefully exit the vehicle and move to a safe location away from traffic. Do not continue to drive the vehicle.
Contact BMW Roadside Assistance at 1-800-332-4269 immediately to have your vehicle brought to the
nearest authorized BMW center.
If you are not the only driver of this vehicle, please advise all other drivers and passengers of this important
information.
What will BMW do?
The fuel injectors will be inspected and, if the damping component is missing, the fuel injectors and fuel rail will be
replaced for free which could take approximately two hours.
If needed, please contact your local BMW center if you want to discuss options to help overcome the inconvenience of
bringing your vehicle in for service.
