UPDATE: Delivery Stop R18 Bagger and Transcontinental (K35)
Adaptive Headlight Reflector
Recall 23V-884 has been issued for STOP630009 K35 headlight reflector
BMW
is announcing a delivery stop STOP630009 for R18 Bagger and Transcontinental (K35) equipped with Option 0134 Adaptive Headlights and 0219 Deluxe Headlight produced between 04/17/2020 and 12/08/2023.
In rare cases, one or several connecting points of the low beam reflector within the headlight may break. The LED lamp of the low beam will continue to function. A broken connection of the reflector may be noticed through rattling noises or vibration of the low beam. In single cases, the reflector may tilt from its intended position, causing the form and direction of the low beam to change. The functions of high beam and daytime running light / position light are not affected in any way.
Affected vehicles are flagged in AIR (Aftersales Information Research) with campaign code
STOP630009. Please note, open campaigns or vehicle stops may not appear in DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or sales systems until 24-72 hours after they are announced, therefore AIR is always the recommended method for determining open campaigns and vehicle stops.
If you have a vehicle in your new/used inventory matching the above description it cannot be retailed until repaired.
Next steps are being determined and a bulletin with technical measures will be published once information is available. The BMW
Motorrad Management Leadership Team is working on compensation measures associated to this stop sale and will communicate these soon.
UPDATE: We have been issued the NHTSA Recall number for STOP630009.

Chronology :
On October 17, 2023, BMW
became aware of field cases where customers complained about vibrating headlamps and/or detached reflectors within the headlamp. An engineering investigation was initiated.
A parts return program was implemented, and the headlamp supplier was contacted. Initial analyses pointed toward vibration-induced damage. As a result, the testing profiles and performance parameters from the development process were reviewed.
From these analyses, it was found that the vibration profiles on R18 models when ridden by customers differed from the profiles which had been used for endurance testing during the development phase.
Parallel to the engineering activities, field data was analyzed. It was found that, between May 2022 and December 2023, BMW
received approximately 8 customer complaints, 72 warranty claims, and 68 dealer field reports that may be related to the issue. BMW
is also aware of approximately 6 NHTSA VOQs that were submitted to the agency. The field data indicated that approximately 75 unique motorcycles may have experienced this condition.
On December 19, 2023, BMW
decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall.
