Catalytic Converter and Exhaust Fasteners May Fail
A loose connection between the exhaust system and catalytic converter increases the risk of a fire.

Summary
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 X7 M60i and XM vehicles. The fasteners that connect the exhaust system and the catalytic converter may not have been tightened correctly.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the gasket between the exhaust system and the catalytic converter, and tighten the fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 16, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop (effective April 6, 2023) on certain Model Year 2023 BMW X7 SAV and XM SAC vehicles that were produced between March 4, 2023, and March 11, 2023.
As of April 20, 2023, this Delivery Stop has been upgraded to a Safety Recall.
A connection between the exhaust system and the catalytic converter may not have been performed according to specifications.

Chronology :
On March 14, 2023, BMW became aware of an improper torque value of a fastener connection between the exhaust system and the catalytic converter on a Model Year 2023 BMW X7 at a vehicle assembly plant. A vehicle hold was issued, and an investigation was initiated.
Inspections and testing of fastener connections were performed. Engineering reviews were conducted to assess possible consequences of torque values that may not have been within specifications.
Vehicle assembly information was reviewed to determine the number, and production dates, of potentially affected vehicles.
On April 19, 2023, BMW decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall.
BMW has not received any reports, nor is BMW otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
