The affected vehicles have been marked with campaign number 0000321300 in AIR.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this campaign it will be necessary to verify the vehicle VIN in AIR (Aftersales Information Research). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the repair or take no further action. Please note, open campaigns or vehicle stops may not appear in DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or sales systems until 24-72 hours after they are announced, therefore AIR is always the recommended method for determining open campaigns and vehicle stops.
NHTSA STATEMENT
Please be reminded that it is a violation of federal law (The Safety Act) for you to sell, lease or deliver any new motorcycle covered by this notification until the recall repair has been performed. This means that dealers may not legally deliver new motorcycles to consumers until they are fixed or use/sell replacement equipment/parts subject to this recall. Note also that substantial civil penalties apply to violations of the Safety Act. Also, you should not sell, lease or deliver any used motorcycles subject to a safety recall until the repair is completed. Please follow any special instructions that we provide to you for the return or disposition of recall parts.
SITUATION
The affected vehicles have been built with a milled hand brake lever with part number 37 72 8103376.
This lever is installed as standard equipment for the M 1000 R’s and is part of the Billet pack with option code 079E on the S 1000 RR’s.
A dimensionally incorrect pivot pin of that hand brake lever can cause a reduction in blowby clearance. The pressure in the brake system can then be insufficient. In specific riding situations a changing pressure point in the hand brake lever can be noticed.
PROCEDURE
For vehicles that have not been delivered, the service campaign must be carried out before delivery to customers.
The pivot pin of the handbrake lever will be replaced according to the attached repair manual “00 60 419 Replace fulcrum pin handbrake lever.“ The new pivot pin is marked with more than one groove or furrow for a better identification when compared to the old construction stage
Note: No other repair solution will be accepted as a warranty claim.
Since February 9th, 2023, only vehicles without this fault pattern are delivered in the series.
PARTS INFORMATION
Obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in ETK which takes into account specific equipment and/or options.
Additional parts like gaskets, hardware and chemicals may be required for the complete repair.

Chronology :
In November 2022, during functional checks and tests in preparation for an event, BMW became aware of two 2023 BMW
M 1000 R motorcycles with unusual hand brake lever movement. The unusual movement corresponded with varying brake lever pressure. An engineering review was initiated.
Various analyses and tests were performed. A review of the engineering specifications of components of the braking system, including the hand brake lever, was conducted. Additional motorcycle models with similar design configurations were identified, including hand brake levers which were available as standard equipment, factory option, and/or aftermarket accessory.
In January 2023, the review indicated that the supplier of the hand brake lever involved in the subject recall was provided with specifications which were insufficient.
Motorcycle assembly information, supplier production records, parts supply chain and aftersales information were reviewed to determine the number and production dates of potentially affected motorcycles.
On February 16, 2023, BMW decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall.
BMW has not received any reports, nor is BMW
otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries that may be related to this issue.

Dear BMW Owner / Lessee:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. BMW
AG has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2023
BMW S 1000 RR models. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially affected
motorcycle.
Why are we contacting you?
We are informing you of this safety recall on your motorcycle although we are not able to perform the
remedy at this time. We will notify you with a follow-up letter as soon as the remedy is available. If you
are not the only rider of this motorcycle, please advise all other riders of this important
information.
What could happen?
The front brake lever (optional milled version) may contain a component (fulcrum pin) that may not
provide appropriate front brake pressure. In certain riding conditions, this could lead to a reduction in
front brake pressure, affect braking performance (lead to a longer stopping distance), which could
increase the risk of a crash.
If you are not the only rider of this motorcycle, please advise all other riders of this important
information.
What will BMW do?
When the remedy is available, the front brake lever fulcrum pin will be replaced. There will be no charge
to you, and should take less than one hour. Please note that this does not include any additional time
that may be incurred during drop off and pick up of your motorcycle at the dealer.
What if I am not the current owner of this motorcycle?
If you changed your address or sold the motorcycle, please let us know by contacting BMW Customer
Relations (see left side of page for contact info). If you are a motorcycle lessor, Federal Regulations
require you to forward this notice to your lessee within ten days.
What if I have additional questions?
For the latest updates to this recall, please visit bmwmotorcycles.com/recall. Should you have any
questions about this recall, please contact your authorized BMW Motorcycle dealer. If you need
additional assistance, please contact BMW Customer Relations.
If your BMW Motorcycle dealer is unable to remedy the defect without charge or within a reasonable
period of time, you may notify the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200

Dear BMW Owner / Lessee:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
BMW AG has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model
Year 2023 BMW S 1000 RR models. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially
affected motorcycle.
Why are we contacting you?
We are pleased to inform you that we are ready to perform this safety recall. If you have not had
this recall performed, please contact your authorized BMW Motorcycle dealer
immediately to schedule an appointment. Please visit bmwmotorcycles.com/dealer to locate
your nearest authorized BMW Motorcycle dealer.
What could happen?
The front brake lever (optional milled version) may contain a component (fulcrum pin) that may not
provide appropriate front brake pressure. In certain riding conditions, this could lead to a reduction
in front brake pressure, affect braking performance (lead to a longer stopping distance), which
could increase the risk of a crash.
If you are not the only rider of this motorcycle, please advise all other riders of this
important information.
What will BMW do?
The front brake lever fulcrum pin will be replaced. There will be no charge to you, and should take
less than one hour. Please note that this does not include any additional time that may be incurred
during drop off and pick up of your motorcycle at the dealer.
What if I am not the current owner of this motorcycle?
If you changed your address or sold the motorcycle, please let us know by contacting BMW
Customer Relations (see left side of page for contact info). If you are a motorcycle lessor,
Federal Regulations require you to forward this notice to your lessee within ten days.
What if I have additional questions?
For the latest updates to this recall, please visit bmwmotorcycles.com/recall. Should you have
any questions about this recall, please contact your authorized BMW Motorcycle dealer. If you
need additional assistance, please contact BMW Customer Relations.
If your BMW Motorcycle dealer is unable to remedy the defect without charge or within a
reasonable period of time, you may notify the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, DC 20590, call the toll-free Vehicle
Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
Please be assured that your safety is important to us, and we sincerely apologize if this safety
recall causes any inconvenience. We recommend always wearing a helmet and protective gear
while riding.
Sincerely,
BMW of North America, LLC

In November 2022, during functional checks and tests in preparation for an event, BMW became aware of two 2023 BMW M 1000 R motorcycles with unusual hand brake lever movement.
