Chronology :
On June 16, 2022, BMW received a report regarding a high-pressure fuel rail issue from an engine production plant. An engineering analysis was initiated, and the supplier was contacted.
A review of supplier records indicated that a production tooling issue had occurred which may have led to certain fuel rails not being produced to specifications. The supplier performed a parts sorting process to remove potentially affected parts. Supplier production tooling was updated, and subsequent initial parts produced were analyzed and determined to be within specifications.
Initial reviews suggested that all potentially affected parts had been removed from the supply chain. However, testing and analyses of parts produced prior to the date of the production tooling issue were performed and indicated that these parts may also not have been produced to specifications. As a result, all parts produced from the last production tooling verification date were identified, and a parts traceability was performed to identify potentially affected engines.
Vehicle assembly information and supplier production records were reviewed to determine the number and production dates of potentially affected vehicles.
On July 13, 2022, BMW decided to conduct a voluntary recall.
BMW has not received any reports, nor is BMW
otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries that may be related to this issue.
After the implementation of 22V-513, on August 11, 2022 BMW became aware of 3 additional vehicles for the US market which were produced with potentially affected fuel rails due to a further review of the production period of potentially affected parts by the supplier.
On August 11, 2022, BMW decided to expand the voluntary safety recall.

Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-513 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 On July 13, 2022, BMW decided to conduct a voluntary recall. BMW has not received any reports, nor is BMW otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries that may be related to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The high-pressure fuel rail will be replaced. The five potentially affected owners are being contacted by phone.
