SUBJECT

Power Mirrors and/or Windows are Inoperative

 

MODEL

New E90
New Equipped with option 522 (Xenon lights)

 

SITUATION

The power windows and/or power mirrors are inoperative. The LED on the headlight switch is flashing. There is a check control message for Windows / Mirrors / Headlights. There may also be a complaint of water in one or both headlights. One of the following fault codes may be stored:

  • 9CBD – Communication with stepper motor box left defective
  • 9CBE – Communication with stepper motor box right defective
  • 9CC1 – Communication with mirror driver side defective
  • New 9CC2 – Communication with mirror passenger side defective / Right Stepper Motor Controller (SMC) signaling fault
  • 9CCF – Communication with LIN control defective

Left and/or right headlight housing cover is not properly fitted allowing water ingress into the Stepper Motor Controller (SMC) connector.

 

CAUSE

Left and/or right headlight housing cover is not properly fitted allowing water ingress into the Stepper Motor Controller (SMC) connector.

 

PROCEDURE

connector at each headlight (X13420 – Left and X13421 – Right)
  1. New Perform a vehicle test using ISTA to verify that the faults listed above are stored in the Footwell Module (FRM).
    Note: When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only “XX.XX” V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.
  2. New Inspect the connector at each headlight (X13420 – Left and X13421 – Right) assembly for corrosion and replace as necessary.

  1. New Make sure the headlight access covers (1) are installed correctly.
  2. New Clear the faults and test the headlights for proper function.

Defect Code: 63 12 20 79 00
Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description:
00 00 006 Refer to KSD2 Performing “vehicle test” (with vehicle diagnosis system – checking faults)
and if necessary, also
61 25 528 Refer to KSD2 Charging battery
and
63 99 000 Work time Work time to inspect and repair connector(s) as necessary

 

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the “Search” button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.

Even though work time labor operation code 63 99 000 ends in “000,” it is not considered a Main labor operation.

Work time (WT) labor operation 63 99 000 requires an individual punch time.
